FAQ & Troubleshooting
The questions teams ask most about Rize
This FAQ is organized around the real friction points: privacy, accuracy, setup, integrations, and profitability. If you are sending teammates or customers a single reference page, start here.
Biggest question
The most common issue is not “How do I track more?” It is “How do I make auto-tagging more accurate?” The answer is usually better structure, rules, synced tasks, and quick review.
Biggest concern
The most important rollout conversation is privacy. Rize is designed to avoid screenshots, keylogging, and content capture.
Biggest admin goal
Team admins usually want profitability, budgets, and cleaner reporting. That only works once the underlying time data is landing in the right place.
General
What does Rize track?
Rize tracks only metadata about your active window: app name, window title, URL when available, and timestamps. Rize never tracks the contents of your windows, takes screenshots, or records keystrokes.
Does Rize work on multiple monitors?
Yes. At any given moment there is only one active (focused) window across all your monitors, and that's what Rize tracks. It doesn't matter how many monitors you have.
Can I use Rize on multiple computers?
Yes. Rize supports simultaneous use on multiple computers without double-counting time. Your data syncs across devices.
What platforms does Rize support?
Rize is available for macOS and Windows. Browser extensions are available for Chrome and Firefox.
Is my data private?
Yes. Rize is designed with privacy in mind:
- Only metadata is tracked (never content)
- No screenshots are taken
- You can redact your data at any time
- Scheduled data redaction is available
- You control exactly what is tracked in Settings > Privacy
Learn more about privacy settings.
Rize is meant to automate time capture, not monitor people. Users review and approve time. Admins get operational visibility without invasive surveillance tools.
Accuracy & Auto-Tagging
Why aren't my time entries being suggested correctly?
The fastest ways to improve accuracy are:
- Create better structure: Make sure your clients, projects, and tasks are actually set up before expecting great tagging.
- Add more keywords: Go to your Clients, Projects, and Tasks and add the terms your team actually uses.
- Connect your task tracker: ClickUp, Linear, or Asana gives Rize better task context.
- Review quickly: Daily review helps the system learn from corrections faster.
- Tune settings: Check Settings > Time Entries for custom instructions, suggestion controls, and AI confidence threshold.
- Review tracking rules: A bad rule can push good activity into the wrong category.
See Time Entry Suggestions Settings for the full workflow.
How do I make Rize more accurate overall?
Start with these in order:
- Set your tracking schedule and browser extensions correctly.
- Create clients, projects, and tasks with clear names and keywords.
- Connect ClickUp, Linear, or Asana if your team lives in a task tracker.
- Review the inbox daily and correct mistakes.
- Add rules for recurring apps, websites, and patterns.
- Adjust AI confidence threshold and custom instructions after you have real usage data.
Accuracy usually improves fastest when your team treats week one as a training period instead of expecting perfect automation immediately.
How do I exclude an app or website from tracking?
Go to Settings > Tracking Rules, click "New Rule", select the app or website, and choose "Exclude from tracking" as the category.
Learn more about excluding apps from tracking.
Why is tracking not working?
- Check that tracking is enabled: Look for the power icon in the bottom left corner of the dashboard
- Check browser extensions: Make sure the Rize extension is installed and active in Chrome or Firefox
- Check permissions on macOS: Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and ensure Rize has the required permissions
- Check Automatic Tracking Schedule: Verify your schedule in Settings > Activity > Automatic Tracking Schedule
Can I manually add time entries?
Yes. You can manually add time entries from the Home tab by clicking the "+" button. Learn more about manually adding time.
Focus & Sessions
How is Focus Time calculated?
Rize uses a 75% threshold within 15-minute windows. If 75% or more of a 15-minute window is spent on focus-categorized apps, the entire window counts as focus time.
Learn more about how focus time is calculated.
What is the Focus Quality Score?
The Focus Quality Score measures the quality of your focus sessions using 20+ attributes, including context switching frequency, app distractions, and time spent on focus categories.
How do I set up the Distraction Blocker?
Go to Settings > Focus > Distraction Blocker. You can block specific apps and websites during focus sessions.
Learn more about configuring the Distraction Blocker.

- Make sure time is being tagged accurately before relying on margin numbers.
Then use dashboards and profitability reports to review revenue, cost, and profit by client, project, or member.
Start with Profitability Overview.
What billing strategies are available?
