Planning Sessions

Planned sessions are a powerful feature in Rize that allows you to structure your day ahead of time with scheduled Focus, Meeting, or Break blocks.

Planned Sessions will appear in your timeline, visually distinct with a lighter shade than completed sessions.

Using Planned Sessions

Adding a Planned Session

  1. Go to the Home tab or Timer view.
  2. Click or drag to select a time slot.
  3. Choose a session type (Focus, Meeting, Break).
  4. Edit the session title, tag a project, or adjust the duration.
  5. Click to save.

You can also click a Planned Session to:

  • Edit it
  • Add project, client, or task tags
  • Remove it

Using Pomodoro Mode

  1. Drag and drop a time slot.
  2. Select Add Pomodoro.
  3. Rize will create:
  • 25 minutes of Focus
  • 5 minutes of Break
  • A longer Break of 20 minutes after 4 Pomodoros

Using Quick Controls

  • Use the Timer tab to:
    • View your current, past, and upcoming sessions.
    • Start a session manually.
    • Extend or end your current session.
    • Enable Auto-Advance to automatically move to your next planned session.
    • Access quick actions via the ⚡ icon:
      • Start Pomodoro
      • Clear all planned sessions
      • Use AI to generate a schedule (e.g., "Create a 20-minute focus session")

Using Keywords for Calendar Events

Rize can automatically create Planned Sessions from calendar events using custom keywords.

  1. Go to Settings > Calendars to find keyword settings for Focus Sessions, Breaks, and Meetings.
  2. Add keywords to the Session type of your choice.
  3. Rize will auto-tag and create Planned Sessions of that type if the keywords are contained in a calendar event's name or description.

Settings & Customization

Go to Settings > Planning to:

  • Enable/Disable Auto-Start for planned sessions.
  • Auto-generate sessions from calendar events.
  • Set Notifications before planned sessions start (e.g. 3 minutes before).
  • Add instructions for daily planning AI, such as:
    • Use Pomodoro structure
    • Avoid creating meetings with keywords like "workout"

Rize will automatically open meeting links for planned sessions. You can disable this by going to Device Settings > Auto-Open Meeting Links.
