Tracking Rules Overview

What are tracking rules?

Tracking rules are the logic Rize uses to categorize your time automatically. Each rule matches specific apps, websites, URLs, or window titles and assigns them to a Category - helping you stay organized without manual input.

Think of tracking rules as the behind-the-scenes system that tells Rize, "Whenever you see X app, categorize it as Y category."

How tracking rules are created

There are two ways tracking rules get created:

  1. Automatically by AI - Rize auto-categorizes your activity based on your job title and custom categories list.

  2. Manually by You - You can create custom rules from Settings > Tracking Rules.

You can manage all your rules from Settings > Tracking Rules. In this section, you can:

  • Search and filter rules and
  • Edit a rule's category
  • Add new advanced logic rules (e.g., match by partial URL or window title)
  • Delete or disable outdated rules
  • Recalibrate all rules

You can create highly customizable rules, so you can tailor your setup to match exactly how you work.
